Augusti Torello Mata started working in the world of wine when he was 14 and at the age of 18 he opened the first wine analysis laboratory in his hometown of Sant Sarturni. He became totally immersed in Cava and in 1955 produced his first 500 bottles after serving as a consultant to other Cavas for years.

Mata Cava is a blend of Macabeu, Parellada, and Xarel-lo from vines that must be at least 30 years old. The Mata estate is organically farmed and the juice spends 3 years in the lees and only disgorged when the US importer places an order!

The results are a rich, more complex style of Cava- well integrated with hints of apple, caramel, and fresh herbs and some serious brioche aromatics going on!
