100% Chardonnay from Mâcon-Fuissé, France.
The Macon is the sleeping giant of high quality and affordable Burgundy. Andre Cheveau started his winery in 1950 and now grandsons Nicolas and Julien are producing some of the best Chardonnay from outside the legendary village of Fuisse. The wine is 100% Chardonnay from 40 year old vines grown in a single parcel, Les Grandes Bruyeres. This is a small production- 500 cases- 12 months of aging on the lees in stainless steel tanks. There’s zero oak here- no butter bombs anywhere to be seen!
Planted in limestone and clay soils, this special vineyard produces a typically generous and rich wine with that trademark Burgundian nose of lemon zest and apples underpinned by the signature minerality.
There’s more going on here - brisk citrus fruits, a little smokiness, oyster shell-like salinity and brioche flavors. Cloves and ginger add complexity to the wine’s long sumptuous finish!
