100% Pinot Noir from Wuttermberg, Germany. Organic & Biodynamic.
From the distributor:
From Wuttermberg, Germany, this Pinot Noir has a brightness and purity that is stunning. It is focused, yet still has a polished saturation and immediacy; it crackles with a mineral-driven electricity. The Roterfaden Pinot Noir is gorgeous – sensational bright ruby color with a refreshing bouquet of crunchy strawberries and Maraschino cherries and hints of black and white pepper. Very easy to drink!
Weingut Roterfaden was founded in 2014 by Hannes Hoffmann and Olympia Samara: he from Rosswag, where their vineyards and cellar are located; she from Greece. They met while studying oenology at Geisenheim, fell in love, and travelled and worked in California, South Africa, Austria, Spain and Greece, hoping to find the perfect place to set up a small, hands on estate for themselves. Eventually, they realized that what they were looking for is right in front of them: Rosswag, northwest of Stuttgart, in Swabia, Hannes' hometown. Today, Hannes and Olympia biodynamically farm 4 hectares of Lemberger, Pinot Noir and Riesling on steep, terraced vineyards of pure limestone. All work in the vineyards and cellar is done by hand. Winemaking is minimalist: native yeast fermentation, aging in old barrels, no fining or filtration and small additions of sulfur prior to bottling. The result are wines of startling purity and energy that are defining the quality of Rosswag in this corner of Swabia.
