85% Viura & 15% Malvasia from Rioja, Spain.
At high altitude in the Basque Rioja region of the Alavesa Mountains, the Saenz de Samaniego family has been farming this area since the 16th century. Located at the convergence of the Atlantic and Mediterranean climate influences, they plant indigenous Viura (85%)and Malvasia(15%) to produce the “other” Rioja wine that has been overshadowed by its red companion.
The grapes are sourced from vines grown between 1939-1989, fermented in stainless steel and bottled without further aging to capture the freshness and energy of this mountain wine.
The wine radiates a light lemon color with mineral driven flint and chalky notes and stone fruit flavors. Racy and refreshing, compelling and so easy to drink, the wine has a great balance of flavors dominated by green apple, lemon, and apricots.
