100% Zinfandel from Mendocino, California, USA.
German Zierfandler, a white grape brought to the United States as early as 1832 may be how Zinfandel got its name. Primitivo and Zierfandler were trekked out west during expansion and the theory is that both grapes started being called Zierfandler! Whatever the story, Zinfandel is considered to be America’s (adopted) grape!
Kivelstadt Winery has been one of the first producers of the orange wine craze and has perfected it to an art form. They know their way around carbonic maceration. The wine is 100% Zinfandel unlike any other. The whole clusters are blanketed with CO2 and held at a cool temperature for 12 days. The wine is then pressed to barrel where it finishes its primary fermentation.
The carbonic fermentation turns a grape that’s notorious for its jammy, tannic & high alcohol qualities into a light and fresh and new interpretation of Zinfandel! Great when chilled, peppery, with flavors of cranberry and raspberry, this wine walks the line between a rose with its low tannins and mouth watering acidity, and a red with its deep color & extraction!
